Hit 5000 stars in a single deep sky photo and it blew my mind

5000 is insane man, I hit 3000 in a single shot of the Orion Nebula last fall and I thought that was a lot. It was a 20 minute exposure stack with my old Nikon, and I still remember zooming in and seeing all those little dots (and a few satellite trails, of course).

5000 is insane man" - nah, that's just what happens when you leave your scope pointed at the sky long enough and forget to double check your exposure settings. I tried that one time with a 30 minute stack on Andromeda and ended up with more satellite trails than a stars. Looked like someone drew all over my image with a highlighter.

Not to be that guy, but 5000 stars in a single shot would be pretty normal for a lot of deep sky targets. Even a basic shot of the Milky Way core can hit that easy. It's more about how many you can actually distinguish without them all blending together.
