Got a perfect shot of the Orion Nebula after a week of clouds
Last Thursday night in Boise, the sky cleared up for the first time in six days. I had my Celestron 8SE set up and ready. Managed a 30 second exposure that finally showed the core details. Anyone else get a good image after a long wait?

Finally got a clear night and my camera battery was dead. Classic. Had to dig through three junk drawers for the charger while watching the stars through the window, just waiting for a cloud to roll in. The universe really knows how to mess with you right when you think you've won. At least you got the shot before your gear decided to rebel.

Oh man, that's awesome. I always feel like the first clear night after a long stretch of clouds gives you the sharpest air, like the atmosphere just settled down. Bet that 30 seconds was just enough to pull out the gas clouds without blowing out the core.

Ever notice how those first clear nights make even familiar stars look different? I swear I could pick out the Veil Nebula's faint threads last fall when the sky finally cleared after weeks of rain. It's like all the haze and wobble in the air just drops away. What's the longest you've waited for a night that sharp?
