Cloud cover ruined my best shot of the Veil Nebula in 3 years
I drove 2 hours to Cherry Springs State Park on Tuesday night, set up my ZWO ASI294MC, and got exactly 14 minutes of usable frames before the fog rolled in. I'd been tracking this target for weeks, even checked Clear Sky Chart which said 80% clear. One random cloud bank from Lake Erie wiped out what could've been my sharpest image yet. Anyone else have a session where the weather app lied and you just packed up in defeat?
That Clear Sky Chart gets it wrong all the time up there because it can't see those little lake effect bands coming off Erie. Same thing happens with my weather app at home, says 0% rain and then it pours for 20 minutes while I'm standing in the yard looking like an idiot. These forecasts are just guesses dressed up with fancy percentages. 14 minutes after a 2 hour drive stings though, sorry man.
