Am I the only one who edited photos before checking the histogram?

Spent two years in Tucson messing with curves and sliders by eye. Then a buddy at the Kitt Peak visitor center showed me his histogram after every shot. My blacks were crushed on half my Milky Way shots. Now I check it before anything else. Anyone else have that 'oh crap' moment with a basic tool you ignored?

Ha! You're acting like a histogram is the holy grail. Look, I've shot plenty of stuff that looked fine to my eye and then printed it out and it was fine. The histogram is a tool, not a rulebook. Sometimes your blacks are supposed to be crushed for a moody shot, and the screen on your camera lies anyway when you're outside in the sun. But yeah, I guess if you're shooting Milky Way shots for two years straight and never once looked at the graph, you probably got some muddy results. Still, calling it an 'oh crap' moment is a bit dramatic. You fix it in post and move on. It's not like it ruined your life or your photos permanently.
