Why did nobody tell me about the shoelace loop trick for extension cords

I kept tripping over tangled cords in my garage workshop for 2 years, tried those velcro straps and zip ties but they always slipped off. Last week a neighbor showed me how to just loop the cord over itself like a shoelace knot, takes 5 seconds and holds perfect. Has anyone else found weird household hacks that fix workshop problems better than actual shop tools?
