TIL my gym in Columbus has been charging me for a locker for 8 months that I never asked for
So I finally sat down and looked at my bank statement line by line last Tuesday, and I noticed a $12 charge from my gym that I could not place. I called them up and the girl on the phone said it was a locker rental. I have never rented a locker in my life. I told her I just use the free cubbies by the front desk and she goes oh, that got added when you signed up. Eight months times $12 is $96 I just handed over for nothing. She said she could cancel it going forward but could not refund the back charges because it is past their 60 day window. I asked to talk to a manager and got told one would call me back, which of course never happened. Has anyone actually gotten a gym to refund stuff like this, or do I just eat the $96 and start checking my statement closer?
My old gym in Dayton pulled the same crap with a towel service I never signed up for, $7 a month for almost a year before I caught it. I called and asked for a manager and the dude actually did reverse 6 months of it after I threatened to dispute it with my bank. So that is my advice, call your bank and file a dispute for the $96, they usually side with you on stuff like this. Gyms count on people not checking their statements, it is a whole business model. Screw the 60 day window, that is their rule not the bank's.
