The garage door spring snapped while I was pulling out for work Tuesday morning

I backed out to head to a job site and heard a loud bang followed by the door crashing down. The torsion spring just gave up after maybe 8 years of use. I had to call in late and spend $350 on a repair that took a guy 45 minutes. Has anyone else had a seemingly simple household thing fail at the worst possible time?

Blamed the wind until I checked the footage and saw the lock was busted, just like @reeseanderson said.
