That $200 'waterproof' jacket I bought off a clearance rack in Portland
Last winter I was walking to the bus stop in a downpour and thought my old coat would handle it. Nope, soaked through in 10 minutes flat. So I dropped $200 on this clearance jacket from a local outdoor shop, figured it was a deal since it was marked down from $400. First real rain test was last Tuesday and I stayed bone dry through a 25 minute walk. Has anyone else had luck with clearance gear actually outperforming the full price stuff?

Grabbed a similar deal on a winter coat from a Seattle surplus store last year and its still going strong after who knows how many downpours. Paid $150 for something originally $350 and I swear it works better than the $500 shell my buddy bought at full retail. Sometimes those clearance racks just have the real gems that got overlooked.

My friend Mark found a $600 Patagonia coat for $80 at a Portland thrift store, @finley_walker57, and it's still perfect.
