Spent $40 on a cheap drone and it crashed into a lake on day 2

I bought a little drone off Amazon for about $40 to get some cool shots of the park near my house in Denver. Took it out last Saturday, was having fun, and then a gust of wind just pushed it right into Sloan's Lake. That money is gone and I didn't even get one good picture out of it. Anyone else buy something cheap that failed fast or did I just pick a bad model?

You dropped forty bucks into a lake and got nothing out of it. That's basically a net loss of forty dollars plus disappointment. Cheap drones and gusty wind is a classic combo. I watched my neighbor lose his thirty dollar one to a tree branch on the first flight. The wind doesn't care about your budget, it just takes whatever you throw up there. Maybe stick to a kite next time, at least you can pull it back down.

Felt that one man. I bought a thirty five dollar drone from some random website and lost it to a gust of wind on the second flight ever. Watched it just float away over some trees like it was nothing. Definitely not doing that again, cheaper to just buy a kite you can actually control.
