Showerthought: I just realized I've poured over 10,000 yards of concrete in my career.

That number hit me yesterday and it's weird to think about how much physical material that actually is, has anyone else had a moment like that with their own work?

Used to think my job was just pushing paper around a desk. Then I added up all the customer emails I've sent over the years, and the word count was bigger than some novels. Makes you see the pile of small tasks as one real, solid thing you built. It's a strange but cool feeling to look at your work that way.

Ever try printing them out just to see the stack? Ngl @lucas972, that visual pile can really hit different than a word count.

Look at it the other way though - all those words are just taking up space on servers somewhere, not actually changing anything in the real world. Sending an email is barely different from talking to yourself, and a novel nobody reads is just a waste of trees. How do you know any of those words actually mattered to anyone?
