Serious question, freezing my jeans for 2 days actually got the smoke smell out and I feel like I got tricked by a myth
Ok so here is the deal. I bought a used denim jacket off a guy in Reno for $18 and it reeked like campfire and old cigarettes. I tried washing it twice, hung it on the porch for a day, even stuck it in a bag with dryer sheets for 3 days. Nothing worked.
Then a coworker said freeze it. I laughed at her because I always heard that was a myth. But I was out of ideas, so I put the jacket in a trash bag and left it in my chest freezer for 2 days next to the frozen peas.
Pulled it out and the smell dropped like 80 percent. I could barely pick up the smoke. My question is did I get lucky, or does freezing actually do something to the bacteria? And does it come back after a while? It has been a week and so far so good, but I do not want to be the guy who smells like a wet ashtray at a wedding in June.
