Saw a huge difference in my tomato plants after 3 weeks of proper watering

I used to just splash water on my garden whenever I remembered, but my tomatoes were always small and cracked. Then I watched a video that said to water deep and slow at the base every 3 days. After 3 weeks of doing that, the leaves got way darker green and the fruit started coming in bigger and smoother. I'm in Phoenix so the dry heat probably made the change even more obvious. Has anyone else seen a big shift just from changing their watering routine?

Whoa wait, Simon said what?? Hold on, I must have missed that comment. So your watering changed the actual pH of your soil? That's wild. I've been gardening for like 5 years and never even considered that the water itself could mess with the chemistry like that.

Oh man @simonreed that's actually a really good point I hadn't thought about. I just assumed the water was fine since I'm using tap but maybe the buildup over time changed things. I've seen some people online say switching to distilled or rain water can drop the pH a lot. Might grab a cheap test kit this weekend and check both my tap and the runoff from the pots. Could explain why my basil leaves started looking a bit pale lately.
