PSA: I asked my neighbor in Austin a simple question about his sprinkler system last week and got a two hour lecture on water pressure zones.

He pulled out a binder full of charts from 3 years ago and insisted I needed to understand the municipal flow rates before I could even pick a hose nozzle, which honestly made me wonder if anyone else has a friend who turns a basic 'ask anything' moment into a full blown seminar.

I used to find that annoying, but now I see the value in a proper hose setup.

My buddy Mark spent a whole weekend trying to wash his car with one of those cheap, kinked hoses. He got so mad he finally went and bought a good rubber one and a proper nozzle. Said it cut the job time in half and the water pressure actually worked. He laughed about how stubborn he'd been, avoiding the upgrade for years. Now he says it's the best forty bucks he ever spent on his garage. I guess sometimes the annoying thing is just a sign you need the right tool.

Forty bucks on a hose is wild when you can just untwist the cheap one and get it working fine. Most people give up on their stuff way too fast and run out to buy something new before they even try to fix the problem. Those old hoses work fine if you store them right and take a second to straighten them out before you start. Mark probably wasted more time shopping for that new hose than he ever did dealing with the kinks. Besides, what happens when that nice rubber hose gets a hole in it next summer?
