Just tried a $30 off-brand digital caliper and it measured more accurately than my $200 Mitutoyo

I was checking tolerances on a 3D printed part for a client last Tuesday and my expensive caliper kept jumping 0.1mm. Grabbed the cheap one out of curiosity and it was dead on with the micrometer. Anyone else have a budget tool that outperformed the fancy version?

My buddy swore by a $15 harbor freight torque wrench until his engine block cracked.

You say "hobby part" but what kind of hobby are we even talking about here...? Are you trying to run it in a drone or an RC plane cause that changes everything.
