I wasted $80 on a meal prep subscription that I totally could have done myself

So I signed up for this meal prep service called Freshly last month, you know, the one where they send you single-serving meals. I figured it would save me time and keep me from eating fast food. But after two weeks I realized I was basically paying $10 per tiny container of chicken and rice. I could have made the same stuff at home for like $2 a meal, easy. Plus half the meals tasted super bland and I ended up adding my own seasoning anyway (which defeats the whole point, right?). I canceled after week three and I'm out $80 with nothing to show for it but some plastic containers in the recycling bin. Has anyone else fallen for these subscription services and felt kinda dumb about it afterwards?

Blew $60 on a HelloFresh box and ended up ordering pizza three times that week.

@nathanking yeah the portion sizes in those boxes are wild, like a single chicken thigh for two people. It’s basically a shopping list with extra steps, not a meal plan. I almost wonder if they designed it so you’d still need to order out, keeps you coming back for more.

honestly i used to defend hello fresh. i thought people were just bad at cooking or something. but yeah, "a single chicken thigh for two people" really hit me. that's exactly the stuff i used to roll my eyes at and say "just add more from your fridge." but then i actually got a box and realized... the whole point is they're supposed to give you everything you need. so when you open it up and there's barely enough protein to feed a kid, you're left feeling ripped off. you paid for this "complete" meal but you still gotta go to the store or order delivery. it's like they're tricking you into spending more money, not saving you time or hassle. really changed how i see those ads now.
