I finally understood why my old neighbor in Tucson always asked me the same thing every morning.
Last week, after 3 years of him asking 'What's your plan for today?' while I was just checking my phone, I realized he wasn't being nosy, he was trying to get me to actually think about my day before it started.

That's a really nice way to look at it.

Remember that old library in my hometown, the one with the marble steps worn down in the middle. People always talked about fixing the worn spot, but I liked it. It showed how many feet, over how many years, had come there looking for something. That wear isn't broken, it's proof of use. It's the same with a lot of things we call flaws.

Look at how easy it is to miss the point of a simple question. We get so stuck in our own heads that a kind gesture just feels like noise. It takes real humility to realize you were the one not listening.
