I finally dropped the 40 item grocery list and just walked the aisles, and it cut my bill from $210 to $140
For years I did the whole thing, list on my phone, sorted by aisle, checked off every item like it was a job. Then about two months ago I forgot my phone at home and just walked the store in St. Paul with nothing but a rough idea. I spent $140 instead of my usual $210, and somehow I still came home with everything we actually needed for the week. Turns out the list was making me buy stuff out of habit, the same brands, the same snacks, the same things that sat in the pantry untouched. Without it I actually looked at prices and grabbed what was on sale. Has anyone else tried shopping with no list at all, and did it stick, or did you end up going back three times that week?
Sounds like you just got lucky that week honestly. I've tried the no list thing and ended up at the store like three times because I kept forgetting stuff. Saving 70 bucks is cool but I'd rather not make extra trips.
