Spent $1,800 on a Ronin gimbal for a Tucson resort shoot and it burned me
Half my B-roll came out with a weird micro-jitter the client spotted in the first cut, so now I want to know if anyone in Phoenix actually gets smooth results with one of these or if I should just go back to a tripod and slider.
Man, I had a similar thing happen with a cheap stabilizer on a wedding shoot up in Sedona. The footage looked fine on the tiny camera screen but once it hit a big monitor the jitter was everywhere. Turns out the gimbal was set to the wrong follow mode for how I was walking, and the motors were fighting my steps the whole time. Switched it to a locked mode and held it lower and the jitter mostly went away. That spot could be motor tuning or just how you were moving with it. Worth testing on a short walk before you give up on the thing, because a slider won't save you on moving shots.
