Question about a director in Tucson killing my wide shots, and she was right
Last month a director shooting a promo here in Tucson kept asking why I was backing up so far for every shot, and after the third setup she told me wide is where I hide because I don't trust my lighting. That stung but she was right, so I started lighting the frame tight first and only pulling back when the shot needs the room. Two weeks later we shot a restaurant spot in Mesa and I got 20% more usable footage because I stopped padding every frame with ceiling and floor. Anyone else had a note like that, where the person wasn't being mean, they just saw your habit before you did?
