I finally started bringing my own light meter after that wedding in Sedona last month
I was shooting a small wedding at a spot near Bell Rock in Sedona and the sun kept ducking behind clouds all afternoon. My camera screen made everything look fine, so I kept rolling, and when I got home half the ceremony footage looked flat and dark. The client did not complain but I knew it was off. A guy I know who shoots a lot of outdoor stuff in Tucson told me he never trusts the screen for exposure outside, he carries a cheap light meter and checks the actual light before every setup. I grabbed one for around $180 and used it on a backyard shoot in Mesa last weekend. Big difference, I could set my exposure in seconds without guessing. Now I want to know, do you all meter the light or just keep checking the screen?
