I finally get why people shoot in Log even for quick jobs

Always thought it was overkill for a 30 second social clip. Then I had a shoot in Phoenix last month where the shadows got totally blown out in standard mode. Took the same footage in Log the next day and pulled back so much detail. Anyone else have that moment where you finally saw the light?

Yo ever had a shoot where you thought you nailed the exposure on the monitor but then got back to the computer and realized your highlights were toast? That happened to me once with a sunset time lapse. I was so sure I had it right, but the sky came out all white and blown out. Log saved my bacon on the reshoot. Now I just default to it for anything outdoors or high contrast, even if it's just a quick 10 second thing for Instagram. It's like having insurance for your footage that you never knew you needed till you actually need it.

Right? The monitor always lies to me too. I've had that exact "highlights are toast" moment more times than I care to admit, especially with sunsets. Now I just roll with log as my default for anything with a hint of sun, like it's my backup plan for my own bad guesses.
