Finally picked the Sony over the Canon for my desert shoot

Went back and forth for two weeks between a Sony A7 IV and a Canon R6 for a tourism shoot out in Sedona. I ended up going with the Sony mainly because of the lens options for the price. First day out on the red rocks the autofocus handled the bright sun and harsh shadows way better than I expected. Anyone else make the jump between brands and have regrets or relief?

Gotta call this out a bit. I rented both for a week before buying and ended up with the Canon R6 instead. The Sony autofocus is crazy good in those high contrast desert scenes no doubt, but the colors straight out of camera felt off to me on the Sony. Had to spend way more time in Lightroom tweaking the skin tones and reds on the rocks. With the R6 I got usable JPEGs right away which saved me hours of editing when I was shooting sunrise to sunset for five days straight.

The Sony color thing is way overblown online. I shot a full wedding in Death Valley last month and the raw files were so clean I barely touched the sliders. If you're spending hours fixing colors on Sonys you need to learn how to set a custom white balance before you shoot, not blame the camera. Twenty seconds with a grey card and the red rocks looked exactly like they did in person. Canon's menu system is years behind and their lens prices are robbery.
