Wasted $80 on a fake stone tool at a flea market near St. Louis

Picked up what looked like a classic Clovis point last month. Got it home and a buddy who works at the university lab told me it was modern flint knapped with a metal tool. Anyone else ever get burned by a fake artifact?

A quick tip for anyone hunting old stone tools - check the patina first. Real Clovis points have a dull, weathered surface from thousands of years in the ground. That fake you got probably had that fresh, shiny look where the flint was broken. Also, look for the flaking pattern. Modern knapping leaves these big, clean flake scars that are too uniform. Old tools have a more random, uneven pattern from people banging rocks together with antler or bone. Your buddy at the lab knows what's up. Sorry you got burned, that stinks.
