Warning: touching the plaster casts at Pompeii got me yelled at by a guard
I was at the House of the Vettii in Pompeii a few weeks ago and ran my hand along the edge of a wall painting without even thinking about it. A guard came over fast and told me it's one of only a few spots where the pigment still has its original red, and skin oils mess with it. Does anyone know how much of what we see there is actual ancient paint versus modern fix up?
