Unexpected dig site in my living room during floor replacement

Found some old tools and bits of pottery under the boards. Now the whole reno is stalled for assessment.

My uncle found a 1902 newspaper under his kitchen linoleum. It sounds cool until you realize the whole project gets held up for weeks. Those old tools and pottery shards just turned your floor job into an official thing that needs forms filled out. Honestly, that's a brutal kind of luck. You go in expecting dust and subfloor, not a whole history lesson that stops the work. I feel for you, that delay is the last thing you need.

Disagree with @bethyoung, finding history beats dust.

I used to love the idea of uncovering history in a house... thought it was the best part of any fixer-upper. Then we hit a layer of old bricks and mortar under our porch last summer. What should have been a weekend dig turned into a month-long wait for permits and checks... the whole job just froze. Now I get why that delay is such a killer, it really eats into your time and money. Changed my whole take on it... sometimes you just need the work done, not a surprise archaeology project.
