Spent 6 months excavating a site before realizing I was digging test pits wrong

I was digging these square test pits at a Roman site near York and putting all the finds in one bag per pit. A visiting professor pointed out that I should have been separating by layer the whole time, so all my depth data is basically useless now. Has anyone else had a supervisor miss basic stratigraphy rules before?}

Quit bagging by pit and start bagging by layer. Your depth data is toast, but the finds themselves are still worth something. I've seen supervisors blow way bigger calls, so at least you caught it before you published. Maybe re-log the site photos and see if the visible strata line up with the bags.
