Reached 50 digs cataloged, but here's the debate on what counts as one
I just finished logging my 50th field survey notebook from the last 6 seasons. That number sounds big until you realize some teams count a surface scatter as a site and others won't touch it without a buried wall. My buddy in Nevada logged 30 in one month because he counts every lithic cluster, while my mentor in Ohio barely hits 10 a year with actual excavation units. So which is it, are we measuring discovery or just paperwork? Has anyone else hit a milestone number and then questioned whether the count even means anything real?

Hitting 50 is a trip, mine was all over the place too. One season I counted 14 because I was generous with scatters, next year I got 3 because we only logged anything with intact stratigraphy. Just depends on the project goals, feels less like a real number and more like a mood ring for whatever crew you're on.
