My professor told me to always check the spoil pile first, and he was right
Found a Roman coin in the backdirt from a dig in Cornwall that the main team had missed. Anyone else have a story about advice that led to a surprise find?

Oh, I should clear that up. That wasn't my professor, it was actually a senior engineer at my old internship. He saw me overcomplicating a design and basically told me to stop. It was the best career advice I ever got, just because it came from someone doing the real work. Made me realize how much school doesn't teach you about practical thinking. That guy knew what actually matters on the job.
