Just saw how much I missed by not reading full dig reports

I began reading full dig reports instead of just news bits. Last week, I read about a Neolithic settlement uncovered under a parking lot. The toolmaking details were amazing and now I get ancient life better. How do you keep up with new finds?

The toolmaking details are what get me too. I follow a few museum field blogs that post raw photos and notes from the site.

Wait, @paige986, the raw site notes are wild. I saw one last week where they showed all the messed up flint pieces from someone learning to knap, like a bad DIY project from 4000 BC. It’s cool seeing the actual mistakes.

Actually, seeing those raw photos always makes me think of this local history fair I went to last year. They had a guy doing live flint knapping, and he was making all kinds of mistakes, just like the ancient ones. It was exactly what @jenniferb45 described, a total DIY disaster but from today. He kept laughing about how hard it is, and all the broken pieces looked just like the stuff in the blogs. Makes you realize that even back then, people had to learn through trial and error, no shortcuts. Those blogs really bring that human side of history to life, warts and all.
