Field notes vs digital logs, paper won me over in Utah

I spent 6 weeks on a dig outside Moab trying to keep everything on my tablet, but battery died twice and the screen glare made me miss details. Switched to a simple waterproof notebook and a pencil, and I caught 3 times more pottery shard locations in half the time. Anyone else find that old school methods just work better in the dirt?

Honestly, that bit about catching 3 times more shard locations really got me. Was that just because you weren't dealing with tech problems, or did the paper note taking slow you down enough to actually look closer at the ground? I've seen folks get so focused on getting the GPS point logged that they miss the pattern right in front of them. Did you find yourself writing down extra stuff, like soil color or how the shards were tilted, that you would have skipped on the tablet?
