Field notes vs digital logging, I wasted 4 weeks in Crete before switching
I compared handwritten field notes to a tablet logging app at the Knossos dig and the tablet won because I could cross-reference pottery layers in seconds instead of flipping through 30 ragged pages, so has anyone else ditched paper for good or am I just getting lazy?

My buddy Sam was the exact same way on a survey in Portugal, kept a moleskine full of charcoal sketches and half-smudged notes. After two weeks he tried snapping photos of his pages into a spreadsheet app, and he found a pattern in the tile fragments that took him like ten minutes instead of the whole afternoon he'd been planning on. He still carries the notebook for habit, but everything goes into his phone before he leaves the site, and he says it's the only reason they finished early.
