Chose the volunteer dig over a paid survey job, no regrets

Back in March I had to pick between a two week paid land survey gig or helping out at a Roman villa excavation near my town. I took the dig even though it meant unpaid time off work. Found a small bronze buckle on day three that the lead archaeologist said was probably late 3rd century, and honestly that moment beat any paycheck. Has anyone else passed up money for a chance to be in the field?
