Why does nobody talk about how bad spring is for pruning oaks
A retired forester in Ames told me 6 years ago to never touch an oak between April and July because of wilt, and I brushed it off as one guy's habit until I pruned two red oaks in May 2021 and watched the whole crown go brown by August. Now I turn down oak work from mid spring through early summer and clients think I'm dodging the job. Does anyone here actually take wilt risk work in spring, or is that just a line we all repeat?
