Watching a squirrel stash an acorn in a cavity I'd just filled with foam made me rethink my approach.
I was sealing a cavity on an oak in my own backyard last fall, and seeing that little guy just pull the foam right out to make his winter home showed me I was creating a bigger problem by trapping moisture against the wood instead of letting the tree compartmentalize.

Talk about a squirrel giving you a performance review. That little dude basically did a free inspection and failed your work. Nature has a way of humbling our best intentions.

Yeah, @josephs26, that squirrel sounds like a harsh boss. Nature doesn't care about your plans at all.

Yeah it's kind of like how I've learned the hard way that trying to fix things too aggressively just makes more work. Same with pruning bushes or even cleaning gutters. Sometimes stepping back and letting stuff do its thing works better than overthinking it.
