That big oak on Maple St looked dead last spring, now it's full canopy
Walked past it every day on my lunch break, and by July it had pushed out so many new shoots I actually had to double check I was looking at the same tree. Turns out the city's new soil decompaction crew did their thing back in March, plus we got a wetter than usual May. Has anyone else seen a tree bounce back that hard after aeration, or was this just a perfect storm of weather and timing?

Honestly I think you're reading way too much into this. Trees bounce back on their own all the time, especially after a mild winter and a wet spring. The city crew probably just happened to show up when the tree was already on the mend. Soil aeration helps, sure, but it's not some miracle fix for a tree that was never really dying in the first place.
