Spent 5 hours cleaning a stump grinder screen that should have taken 20 minutes

I had a job in Denton last week grinding a big oak stump. The machine started clogging every few passes so I figured the screen was dirty. Pulled it off and found caked on mud and wood pulp that took forever to chip away. I tried a pressure washer first but that just made a mess. Ended up using a wire brush and a putty knife for almost 5 hours to get it clean. Anyone else run into this and found a faster way to clean those screens?

Oh man, I've been there. What finally worked for me was letting the screen soak in a bucket of water with a little dish soap overnight then hosing it off the next morning.

Oh wow, @janahenderson that sounds messy but I bet it works! Soaking overnight seems way less scrubbing than what I usually do. I'd be scared of rusting the frame though, did you have any issues with that?
