Old foreman's pruning trick finally made sense after 3 years
My first boss in Asheville swore by leaving stubs on oak limbs, said it kept decay from running back to the trunk. I thought he was crazy, so I always made clean cuts at the collar. Last month I had to remove a 60-year-old red oak that some landscaper had flush-cut years ago, and the rot went straight down the main stem. Has anyone else seen old-school methods hold up better than what we're taught now?
