I was sure that oak was a goner after the lightning strike in July

The client in Marietta wanted it removed, but I suggested a wait-and-see approach with a deep root feed. New shoots came up from the base this spring, proving the root system was still viable. How do you all judge when a tree is truly a lost cause versus worth trying to save?

Actually, new shoots can be a last-ditch stress response.

So what causes that stress in the first place?

The bit about new shoots being a last-ditch stress response got me. So my lucky bamboo is basically sending out an SOS signal and I thought it was thriving? That's a little unsettling.
