I miss the days when climbing trees meant tying my own knots, not just clipping into a mechanical system.
Back in 2008 during a storm cleanup in Eugene, I had to rig a 60 foot maple with nothing but a prusik and a blakes hitch, and now with all these rope grabs and ascenders I feel like I'm losing the feel for the rope, anyone else still tying their own hitches sometimes?

Man, same here. I still keep a couple of loops of prusik cord in my climbing bag for when I need that old feel. It is way faster to just clip in, but there is something about tying your own hitch that makes the climb more solid.

Right? And tying it yourself means you know it's gonna hold.
