Debate: Saw an older guy at the job site say my rope was way too thin for the climb...

He was using a 12mm line and I had a 10mm for a heavy oak removal last Thursday. He said the smaller rope puts too much shock on the anchor if something slips. I get that thicker is safer, but lighter rope saves my back on long days. Which side do you lean on for medium sized removals?

Man, that's a rough spot to be in. I've been there with the heavy gear debate and it sucks when someone questions your setup, especially on a big oak. Honestly, for medium removals a 10mm is totally fine as long as your knots and anchor are solid, but I get why the older guy is worried about shock loading. Your back is important too, so don't feel bad about wanting something lighter for the long days.

Is the 10mm rated for those loads or are you just getting away with it?
