A climber in Boise taught me to check my tie-in knot after every 3 limbs and it caught a bad one
I was up a 60 foot cottonwood near Boise a couple weeks back with a guy who has been climbing for 22 years and he kept stopping to check his knot. I figured he was just being slow, but he said he does it every 3 limbs or every 10 minutes, whichever comes first. About 40 minutes in he flagged my Blake's hitch and sure enough the tail had crept loose. I re-tied it, finished the removal, and have been doing the same check ever since. Did about 8 climbs since then and it has not slowed me down at all. Curious if any of you have a set habit like that or if you just feel it out.
