Was skeptical about those compressor hard start kits for years

Kept seeing guys swear by them for stubborn fridges but figured it was just a bandaid. Finally tried one on a 10 year old GE that was humming but not kicking on. Thing fired right up and ran for another 2 years without issues. Had maybe 4 out of 15 that still needed a compressor replacement after a few months. What's your take on using them versus just replacing the whole sealed system?

Oh yeah, I was dead wrong about those kits myself. Slapped one on a twenty year old Whirlpool that was dead in the water and it ran another five years before we finally retired it.
