Was at the old appliance museum in Springfield and had a weird thought about modern parts

They have a 1950s Frigidaire on display you can open up, and every single component inside is a standard metal part you could make in a basic machine shop. Now everything is a custom plastic mold or a proprietary circuit board. Makes me wonder if we're designing things to be impossible to fix on purpose. Anyone else get that feeling when you see how things used to be built?

Does planned obsolescence feel like a business plan now?
