Unpopular opinion: I always start repairs without unplugging the unit

I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but unplugging eats up minutes for small jobs. If you know what you're doing, it's fine to skip it.

Yeah, that "nasty bite" story from @felix606 lines up with what I read. Some article broke down how even small appliances can have capacitors that hold a dangerous charge long after you unplug them, so skipping that step is just playing with luck. It basically said assuming something is safe is how you win a Darwin Award.

Just grab a multimeter and check it first, saves the guesswork.

Dude, I get wanting to save a minute but that's how you end up with a trip to the ER for no good reason. Saw a guy get a real nasty bite from a fridge compressor he was sure was off. It takes two seconds to pull the plug and it's just not worth the risk, even on small jobs.
