TIL my boss's hurry-up rule for repairs is actually costing us more

He keeps telling us to slash repair times to get more jobs done each day. I think that's wrong because rushing makes us miss stuff and parts fail faster. Ever had a shop policy that hurt your work instead of helping?

Man, sometimes the boss sees the bigger picture though, right? I mean rushing jobs gets more customers through the door fast, and maybe that immediate cash flow keeps the whole shop running. Idk, some clients just want a cheap band aid fix, not a perfect forever repair. Could be he's dealing with complaints about how long things take, not how long they last.

Yeah the "band aid fix" thing always reminds me of my old manager. He'd rush stuff out the door just to close tickets, then act shocked when the same customer called back angry a week later. That short term thinking just burns through customer trust fast.

My old shop had a rule that all tire patches had to be done in under ten minutes. We ended up redoing half of them when they started leaking air in the parking lot. That hurry up rule probably cost more in free rework than we ever made rushing.
