Shoutout to labeled bins for appliance part storage
I tossed all parts into a big container. A tough search for a fridge hinge pin changed my ways. Now I sort by appliance type and size.

Last month I was digging for a tiny washer in my big tool chest and found three different wall anchors I totally forgot I had. That messy pile of random screws and brackets actually saved me a trip to the hardware store twice since then. There's something about the hunt that helps me remember what I own, like my brain makes a map of the junk. Sure it takes five extra minutes sometimes, but I've found useful parts I would have never checked for in a neat little bin.

Come on, that sounds like a huge waste of time! I just keep one giant toolbox for all that stuff. Half the fun is the treasure hunt when you need a random screw, and honestly, my system works just fine. Labeling every little bin is what you do before you give up and toss everything back into the big bucket anyway. It's like sorting Legos by color, totally pointless in the end lol.

Totally pointless in the end" is exactly what my brother said until he spent 45 minutes looking for a specific bolt in his disaster bucket. I read an article a while back that called this the "clutter tax," the time you waste searching for stuff. Sure, you sometimes find a forgotten part, but you lose way more time than you save. That messy system only works until you need something specific in a hurry, then the fun treasure hunt turns into a frustrating chore.
