Rant: A customer told me my diagnosis method was sloppy and she was right

She pointed out I was jumping straight to the control board without checking the door switch first, and after I swapped a perfectly good board on her fridge I started testing every switch and sensor in order like she said, has anyone else had a customer school them on the basics?

The way she put it probably stung but honestly that's a gift in disguise. A lot of techs get lazy and skip the simple stuff first, a bad door switch will trick you into thinking the board is dead every time. Next time someone calls you out like that just take the tip and move on, they might save you a return trip someday.

Hold onto that advice tight. I've been burned by skipping the door switch more times than I want to admit, especially on those old Whirlpool dryers where the switch is hidden weird. Saved my butt on a Samsung washer last month by remembering to check it first before ordering a new control board. A little humility upfront beats a return trip every time.
