Fixed a 20 year old washer by finding a burnt connection behind the control board

Got called out to a guy's house in Greenville yesterday for a Whirlpool that was cycling weird. It would fill, drain, then stop dead for like 10 minutes before doing the spin cycle. Pulled the control board off and found a small burnt spot on one of the relay solder joints. Reflowed it with my iron and the thing ran perfect through a full load. Felt pretty good to save him from buying a new machine. Anyone else ever fix something old just by finding a bad solder joint?

Ever find a problem like that on a dryer too? I had an old Maytag that wouldn't heat up until I found a cracked solder joint on the heating element relay... reflowed it with a cheap iron and it ran for another five years. It's amazing how many times that little trick keeps old appliances out of the dump.

Totally found the same thing on my old Kenmore, reflowed the main board and it worked like new!
