Customer tightened the dryer vent hose with zip ties, found out why
Last Tuesday in Phoenix, a lady calls me out because her dryer quit mid-cycle. Open the back, and someone had used three zip ties to clamp the flex vent onto the exhaust port. Heat melted the plastic, and it sagged right onto the heating element. Burnt rubber smell was the giveaway. Took me 20 minutes to cut it out and put a proper clamp on. Who taught people that zip ties fix everything? Has anyone else seen this clean trick with flex pipe?

...and honestly I'm surprised it even lasted as long as it did. I once tried to fix a squeaky washing machine with a zip tie and ended up with a loud vibrating rattle for three weeks before I caved and called my brother in law. He opened it up and looked at me like I was a child who'd built a fort out of garbage. Zip ties are basically the duct tape of people who think they're handy, but at least duct tape doesn't melt into your heating element. I bet that lady got a good laugh out of your face when you pulled that mess out, or maybe she just cried. Either way, thanks for the reminder that my "quick fixes" are just future problems wearing a disguise.
