Changed my tune on those universal washer door lock kits

Had a Samsung front loader with a bad lock, code F1E3. The specific part was backordered for six weeks. A customer needed it fast, so I tried a universal kit from the supply house. It looked flimsy, but I followed the install guide and tweaked the bracket with a file for a tight fit. The machine has been running fine for over two months now with zero callbacks. Anyone else had luck with these generic kits on high-end models?

Wait, you filed down a bracket? That's some real MacGyver stuff right there. I would have been so sure that thing would shake itself apart.

My 2014 Kenmore needed the same exact fix, and yeah @rowan_thomas is right about bending the tab. I mean idk why they don't just make those brackets standard from the factory.

Yeah, I had to do the same thing on a Bosch last year. The universal kit felt cheap, but a little bending of the metal tab got it seated right. It's still holding strong, so I guess the fix is solid.
